Erotic Art and its Manifestations, from Pompeii to the Roman Empire
Ancient society has often been seen as a place of lax morals and licentious behaviour, a place where a husband could impose his will and his desires upon his wife. Or, in other words, a place were a woman must first submit to the authority of her father before going on to become submissive to her husband. In this presentation, the root of these ideas is explored by analysing the images found in ancient art, from frescoes to mosaics.
Cyril DUMAS, the curator of the Museum of History and Archaeology of Baux de Provence, presents a lecture that analyses the modern mythology of Roman decadence.
An understanding of French will enhance the visitor’s enjoyment of this event.
