  • A family business that was created in Marseille in 1939, the Compagnie Fruitière is now the leading fruit producer in Africa, primarily of bananas and pineapples, and has its fruit distributed throughout Europe. With more than 20 000 employees, the majority of which work on plantations in the Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Ghana, and Senegal, the Compagnie Fruitière was one of the first companies to adopt a strategy of corporate responsibility. The company has launched numerous economic development and social services projects in the countries where it operates, most notably initiatives that improve the infrastructure and services available to employees, employees’ families, and the surrounding communities. In 2018, the company will celebrate its 80th anniversary.

    The Compagnie Fruitière and the Compagnie Fruitière Endowment Fund have come together and chosen to support MP2018, Quel Amour! as an Official Partner. MP2018 constitutes an incredible opportunity to promote the territory and to unite the different political, economic, and cultural actors around an ambitious project.

  • Having had a presence in Martigues since 1935 thanks to its La Mède platform, Total has always paid particular attention to the culture and the heritage of this region that has served as a historic base for its activities. After having supported MP2013, European Capital of Culture, it was an obvious choice for Total to become involved in the development of MP2018. By becoming an Official Partner, the Total Foundation recognises the spirit of cooperation that defines the project and the world-class quality of the artistic programme that includes some of the biggest names in contemporary art. As one of MP2018’s emblematic venues, the J1 hangar will welcome two internationally acclaimed artists; as one is a native of Thailand and the other is a native of France, the notion of dialogue between cultures that is so important to Total is perfectly expressed in their work. Each will take their turn in transforming the J1 into a type of bridge, if not a passageway, between Marseille and the rest of the world.

    The incredible richness of cultural exchange will also be on display at the [mac] contemporary art museum in Marseille with Quel amour!?, a collective exhibition that explores the unifying theme of love that is at the heart of MP2018.

  • The MJ1 association, which brings together major public and private actors working to strengthen the territory’s national and international appeal, is dedicated to transforming the J1 hangar—a unique and emblematic piece of Marseille’s history—into a one-of-a-kind venue that will serve the entire metropolis and enhance the overall appeal of the metro area. After having welcomed more than 300 000 visitors in 2013 as part of Marseille-Provence, European Capital of Culture, the “J1” is becoming the “MJ1” and is once again opening its doors to the public in October 2017.

    The MJ1 has been created to become a space for gathering, for discovering, for encounters, a space that is open to all people with an exceptional programme of exhibitions that will run until the end of 2018. As a result of our cooperation with MP2018, our goal of hosting a world-class exhibition has been realised. With the framework of MJ1’s programme, we are proud and delighted to host Quel Amour! in 2018. This contemporary art exhibition exploring the theme of love will bring together the work of globally respected artists and is in total harmony with MJ1’s mission of welcoming large audiences and enhancing the territory’s reputation on the international stage. I would like to thank everybody who made the MJ1 project possible, a work that is by and for Marseille and Provence, and a venue that will be at the service of our newly founded metropolis and its people.

  • The Compagnie Fruitière Endowment Fund was created in 2012 at the behest of Robert Fabre, the president of the Compagnie Fruitière. Its objective is to further the corporate responsibility efforts initiated by the company. In Africa, the Fund works with NGOs and associations to improve the quality of life for the most underserved communities by providing access to electricity, clean water, medical care, and education. Beginning 2016, the Fund has also worked in France, notably in Marseille, by supporting projects in the domains of health, education, culture, and the environment. Among the partners it has worked with in 2017 are the French Red Cross, the HumaniTerra NGO, the Fondation de France, and the Association Massabielle.

    Fostering arts education in schools and encouraging access to culture for all communities are among the main objectives of the Compagnie Fruitière Endowment Fund. For MP2018, we have chosen to support a first-of-its-kind artistic initiative: the creation of an Art Case and the production of 4500 of these cases to be distributed to every single primary school in the Bouches-du-Rhône Department. 115 000 children will benefit both from this tailor-made educational tool and the associated opening festivities on 14 February that will be specially dedicated to young audiences.

  • The shipping company Marfret was created in 1987 after the restructuring of the Compagnie Marseille Fret. Marfret offers container shipping services on regular routes that cover a large geographic area: Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, North Africa, the United States, Central America, the Antilles, French Guiana, Brazil, the South Pacific… Since 2005, Marfret has also gained recognition for its river and multimodal transport services, having created new exchange systems between metro areas and ports as well as new multimodal combinations to serve the maritime, road, and river networks.   • The Medifutur group is specialised in the management of medical-surgical facilities.
