THE STORY OF MP2018
Five years after the monumental success of Marseille-Provence 2013, European Capital of Culture, the cultural, economic, and tourism communities have joined forces again to present an international festival that will show culture is more important than ever. Organised by the MPCulture association and its founding members — the Mécènes du Sud, the Club Top 20, la Chamber of Commerce and Industry Marseille-Provence, and Aix-Marseille University —MP2018, Quel Amour! is an arts event that breaks free of the traditional formats of festivals and biennales. The theme of love embodied by Quel Amour! will act as an inspiration to trace to trace the lines of a new relationship between culture and audiences.
A COLLECTIVE PROGRAMME OF THE HIGHEST STANDARDS
An unprecedented work of artistic collaboration: 15 directors of major cultural organisations came together to create the MP2018 programme with input and help from more than one hundred members of the area’s artistic community representing the spectrum of disciplines from contemporary art, theatre, opera, music, danse, circus…
A TERRITORY TO BE SHARED
A DECLARATION OF LOVE FOR A TERRITORY
From 14 February to 1 September 2018, the territory that embraces the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis and the Pays d’Arles collectivity will be home to a major international arts event.
MP2018 will be a seven-month celebration of the arts at sites from Marseille to Martigues and from Aubagne to Arles, passing through Miramas, Istres, and Salon-de-Provence along the way. The entire event is underpinned by a desire to present the territory’s artistic riches, let people discover the glorious landscapes, and to foster the movement of people and artworks throughout the Bouches-du-Rhône department.
A CULTURAL DYNAMIC INSPIRED BY AN ENTIRE TERRITORY WORKING TOGETHER
MP2018 is organised across a territory that is defined the desire of its communities to create together. The eight participating cities will be home to numerous events from a range of artistic disciplines as part of the MP2018 Quel Amour! festivities. The centres of these eight cities will come alive with art and contemporary creation, not just in traditional cultural spaces but also in restaurants, bars, and businesses. Quel Amour! will be a participatory and creative sensation for both residents and visitors…
